Robots That Vacuum and Mop

Robots that mop and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt, grit) and wet mess (spills, staining) in one session without the need to change devices. They also can save space in comparison to two separate units, particularly in smaller living areas.

For example, you can opt for the robot to do a deep clean in the kitchen and living rooms but be careful with the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors as well as smart navigation technology. It can detect small obstacles that other models cannot. Its only minor issue is that it can hit objects and walls at full speed. As with the other two Roborock models I've tested the S8 Pro Ultra has a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology that helps it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things a step further by incorporating a dual camera that can recognize objects and determine whether they're a wall or another type of surface. It can then change its direction automatically and clean around them without stumbling.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed but it's also feature-packed. Its sleek angular design is striking, and it only has three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also resumes the cleaning mop function, a button for cleaning that doubles as a child-lock and a home-button that can bring the robot to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid reveals 350ml of dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin automatically refills.

The only issue I encountered to this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't removable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth if needed, but it's difficult to take the mount off to wash it manually. I've observed that any soft carpet that the robot passes will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, and could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a variety of smart features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app that is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app lets you schedule cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll have to go through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. This is a shame considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40
