With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum mop cleaner robot's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
