The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we tested. The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin that removes a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited running time. As CR's tests have shown, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. It's still enough time to clean most of a typical-sized home, but not quite long enough to get every single spot (though the second time around usually will suffice). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robot auto vacuum cleaner that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in an expensive robot. It was able to remove most types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area several times to give an efficient clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects in that it has fewer components that require regular maintenance, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself.
