Robots That Vacuum and Mop

Robots that vacuum and mop provide the convenience of removing dry debris (dust dirt) and wet mess (spills and staining) in one session without the need to switch out devices. They can also save space compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot should have impressive navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models that automatically empty their bin and fill up their water tank, and wash their mopping pads from an appropriate dock.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's flagship robot mop and vacuum. It's not like the model from last year, this one features two agitators in its mopping pad, which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra has an enhanced suction power which allows it to pull up finer hairs and other debris other robotic cleaners may miss.

The Roborock model, like the other two I tried it has infrared and a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as furniture, walls, and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and includes two cameras that can recognize objects, determining if they're walls or other surfaces. It will then automatically alter its direction and clean them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive model I've tested however it also comes with the most features. Its sleek, angular style is attractive and it has just three physical buttons which include the power button which can also restart cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock and a home button to return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal the 350ml dust bin as well as a 200ml water tank. The water tank automatically emptys and the bin automatically refills.

The only negative I discovered with this model was that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if needed) however, it's a hassle to remove the mount itself for manual washing. I've found any plush carpet that the robot crosses will come into contact with the rough Velcro like fastener on mounts, which can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of smart features which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can manage and set up these through the Roborock app, which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app also allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor battery life and component maintenance. You'll need to jump through a series of steps to activate voice control on this model. This is a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The app is easy to use and understand and the X40 comes with a variety of smart features that are simple to install. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, alter suction power and mode, see mapping and floor plans and manage mopping settings. The X40 can also monitor its progress and notify you when it's done.

The X40 is easy to keep clean and has many features that make it a great choice for busy families.
