It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning robot mop and vacuum. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana.
