iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot's very first mop-and vacuum robot, and is the company's best buy irobot roomba-looking. Its brushed aluminum top piece and iRobot logo are more sophisticated than the blaring designs of competitors.

The iRobot Home application is used to guide and configure your robot. The app tracks data about usage and maps of your house including furniture and obstacles. Maps and images are only shared when you have signed up.

It's a mop

The Combo Irobot, an extremely intelligent mopping robot, takes all the power of the superb Roomba J7+ and adds a reservoir of water onboard, mopping pads and a robot arm that can lift and lower the pad. It can accomplish a good deal of work in just 111 minutes, before it is power-depleted and returns to its base station to recharge.

The combo model comes with the iRobot Home app so you can initiate or stop cleaning runs. The robot is also attractive with its matte black finish that does not show fingerprints or dust and a brushed aluminum top part with the tiny iRobot Logo.

It's a great vacuum cleaner, and it has no trouble crossing over large area carpets or transition strips between flooring surfaces. It's also able to pick up fine dust that many robotic vacuums fail to pick up. However, it's not well in the field of mowing. It can't obliterate dried milk stains, for example, unless you send it out four or five times.

iRobot's dedicated Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, which is available as combination with the J7 Plus, often for less than the price of the combo Combo and performs much better in this, and other difficult tasks. It can even clean up spilled wine and ketchup but I'd suggest sending it after any kind of liquid with a significant sugar content.

It's a vacuum

It's one of the more attractive robot vacuums. The top of the piece is smooth and doesn't display dirt or fingerprints as easily as other models. The tiny dustbin and water tank are easy to open and close but they're not the best in terms of capacity. The Combo J7+ also comes with the same smarts you'd would expect from irobot mop and vacuum combo with features like map and obstacle avoidance maps that work effectively and swiftly. The mopping arm is what makes this model stand out in its category. It keeps the mop pad hidden away on top of the vacuum, but when it spots the need to mop a surface it lowers the pad beneath and behind the robot. This is a huge upgrade from other robot vacuums that require users to manually remove the mop pad in order to mop hard floors and carpets or even turn the entire unit off to mop.

It's a charging station

Place your Combo Irobot on the charging station and then align the metal contacts on the base. The charging station is simple to set up and performs well. In my tests it took just a few minutes for the robot's to start charging and to make a noise when it was finished. After the Combo irobot is charged, you can start a mapping run in the app to help it understand your home. The app allows you to mark certain objects as permanent avoidances, such as lamp cords. You can also connect Alexa or Google Assistant to your robot so that you can use voice commands for it to navigate around your home.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots use acoustic and onboard sensors to discover the kind of floor it's encountering as well as the objects in your home. This information is then combined with images taken by the robot's camera on board and maps of your home to create an individual plan for cleaning every room. This allows it to be smart enough to keep your lamp cords, sofas and other items you want to keep. Of course, as with any other connected device there are concerns regarding the security of this data. However, irobot vacuum mop claims that it will not sell customer data and that the images are not taken without customers' consent.
